Kirtan

“Luc sings straight from and to the heart. His charismatic voice – a combination of emotional vulnerability and power – and enchanting melodies will carry you to places of soothing stillness and ecstatic joy.”
Dave Stringer

Luc Acke is a spirited, soulful artist from Antwerp, Belgium. His passion for music started at a very young age, singing in choirs, studying the violin, recorder, and piano, and later on exploring jazz improvisation and eventually writing acoustic pop songs. After his discovery of kirtan at a Jivamukti yoga workshop in 2008, he started merging his yogic practice with his passion as a singer-songwriter, composing chants on harmonium and guitar, leading kirtans, and playing live at yoga classes in Belgium and abroad. Luc has shared the stage with renowned kirtan artists such as Dave Stringer and Donna De Lory, and collaborated with British tabla and bansuri player Jason Kalidas on his first collection of chants, BOLO!. He is currently working on his second album, HOME, which will be released in 2012.

BOLO! is available on Bandcamp and iTunes.

Luc started practising Hatha Yoga with Bob Somers (Algemeen Yoga Onderwijs vzw) in 1998. In 2007, he discovered the power of Vinyasa and Ashtanga Yoga at AntwerpYoga, where his main teachers and sources of inspiration are Elsie Matthijssens and Teune van der Wildt. He has participated in workshops with internationally renowned teachers such as Rusty Wells, Petros Haffenrichter, Magnus Ringberg, Michael Hamilton and many others. In the Summer of 2009, Luc took his first steps on the teacher’s path, and since then seizes every opportunity to teach. In June 2011, he completed a 500hr Vinyasa Teacher Training Program (philosophy, pranayama, asana, anatomy) with Patrick Vermeulen (Shukram Das) and Gösta van Dam (Shunya) of SvahaYoga Amsterdam.

In September 2011, Luc and his partner Peter opened up Royal Yoga, a boutique yoga studio in Antwerp, where they offer meditation, yoga and ayurveda in an intimate, non-competitive and friendly environment. Classes are open to anyone, regardless of age, health or level of fitness. For more information visit www.royalyoga.be.
